Catherine Matilda (Martin) Sargent, age 85, of North East, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday May 15, 2017 at home.  She was born on January 19, 1932 in Erie, PA the daughter of the late Vernon Theodore and Martha Matilda (Paterson) Martin.  Catherine graduated Academy High School and was formerly employed as an executive secretary by the Erie County Board of Assistance for over 30 years.  Catherine had a strong faith and deep love for Jesus Christ.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she was involved with the church Grief Share Group and Bible study.  She was preceded in death by her husband, CE Sargent (1992) whom she married in 1951; and brothers, Fred and Theodore Martin.  Catherine is survived by her sons, Marc (Mary) Sargent of Lawrence Park, Thomas Sargent of Millcreek, Jerry (Mariea) Sargent of North East, and Matthew (Tori) Sargent of London, Ontario; sister, Mabel Reisz (Fred) of Blufton, SC; grandchildren, Bryon (Haley) Mushrush, Diane (Christopher) Alibaruho, Trevor (Rachel) Sargent, Teila Sargent, Jordan (Kelsey) Sargent, Jenna Sargent, Jonah Sargent, and Sirius Sargent; 8.5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of North East.  Officiating the service is Rev. Robert Klecan.  Interment will be held at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 43 South Lake Street, North East, PA 16428 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105.  Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
